Taiwan

Who needs a visa for Taiwan?

Of 198 nationalities, 67 enter Taiwan with no paperwork at all. The rest: 3 can get a visa at the border and 128 must be approved before they travel.

We have not found a Taiwan government portal we can link to with confidence, so we link to none โ€” a lookalike is worse than nothing. Apply through Taiwan's own immigration service or its embassy.

What do you need?

Who needs what

Visa free 67

Nothing to apply for and nothing to pay before you travel.

eTA (electronic travel authorisation) 4

Not a visa. A short online form for travellers who are already visa-exempt, usually approved automatically in minutes to hours. No appointment, no interview, no documents.

eVisa (electronic visa) 17

A real visa application, made online instead of at an embassy. It is assessed, it takes days rather than minutes, and it can be refused.

Visa on arrival 3

Issued at the border rather than beforehand. Bring the fee in cash in the currency the border post accepts. It is a permission, not a guarantee.

Visa required 107

You must apply and be approved before you travel. Airlines will refuse to board you without it.
