You can board a flight to Australia on a passport from New Zealand with no visa. The officer on arrival sets how long you may stay. Immigration will still want to see a return ticket, somewhere to stay, and enough money for the trip.
- Status
- Visa free
- Stay permitted
- Up to 12 months. The length granted is written in your grant letter.
- Government fee
- Nothing to pay
- Typical decision
- No application
There is nothing to apply for and nothing to pay.
Book your flight. Any site offering to sell you a Australia visa, permit or "travel authorisation" for this trip is selling you something you do not need.
If you are travelling on a different passport, Australia's official entry rules are at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au.
What Australia asks for
- Passport
- Evidence of funds to cover your stay
- Evidence that you intend to leave Australia, such as employment or study ties
- A statement explaining the purpose of your visit
- Health insurance, where the officer asks for it
Worth knowing
- Australia grants visas electronically. There is no sticker in your passport, and no legitimate service charges to 'print' or 'activate' one.
- From 1 July 2026 a lower visa cost applies in limited concession cases. The concession is granted by Home Affairs, not by an agent.
How long it takes
Australia publishes a separate processing time guide per visa stream rather than a single figure.
