What Ireland asks for

  • Passport valid for at least six months beyond the date you plan to leave
  • Application summary sheet from AVATS, signed
  • Two colour passport photographs taken in the last six months
  • Bank statements for the last six months, showing your own funds
  • Evidence of employment, study or business ties in your home country
  • Travel medical insurance for the length of the stay
  • A letter explaining why you are travelling and who is paying for the trip

Worth knowing

  • Ireland is not in the Schengen area. A Schengen visa is not valid for Ireland, and an Irish visa is not valid for the Schengen countries.
  • Unofficial agents charge several times the government fee to fill in the same AVATS form.
